Challenges & Goals
Free League Publishing partnered with UberStrategist to support the launch of Blade Runner RPG, a tabletop role-playing game set in the iconic science fiction universe. The game drew from the characters, themes, and atmosphere of the beloved film franchise, creating strong interest among both tabletop players and Blade Runner fans.
The goal was to generate awareness ahead of launch, secure meaningful media coverage, and introduce the game to audiences beyond the traditional tabletop community. Free League also wanted to highlight how the RPG translated the setting's distinctive world and storytelling into an immersive tabletop experience.
Strategic Approach
We developed a PR campaign focused on feature opportunities, interviews, and launch coverage that could showcase the game's connection to the Blade Runner universe. Our team crafted targeted pitches, distributed press materials, and worked closely with media contacts to identify opportunities that aligned with the game's strengths.
As part of the campaign, we pursued hands-on opportunities that would allow journalists to experience the game firsthand. This approach led to an exclusive play session with Polygon, which gave the outlet direct access to the gameplay experience ahead of launch.
Results
The campaign secured coverage across major gaming, entertainment, and mainstream media outlets, including Polygon, Forbes, and Metro UK. Coverage highlighted both the game's connection to the Blade Runner franchise and its approach to tabletop role-playing.
Polygon's exclusive play session resulted in a front-page feature timed with launch, which provided prominent visibility and boosted awareness at release. Overall, the campaign helped introduce Blade Runner RPG to a broad audience of science fiction fans and tabletop players while supporting a successful launch for Free League Publishing.
