Challenges & Goals

NZ CODE, New Zealand’s Centre of Digital Excellence, brought 12 game developers to gamescom and needed support with press appointment booking and on-site media coordination. The lineup included titles such as Beyond These Stars, Denari, and Bashful Adoration. The objective was full-lineup press representation: at least one confirmed media meeting for every title to give each developer hands-on experience presenting their game to press.

The 2.5-month campaign began later than ideal, when many journalists were already finalizing their gamescom schedules. Coordinating the meetings also required careful planning, as many developers were booking their own publisher meetings and there was no single system that gave us clear visibility into everyone’s availability.

Strategic Approach

We treated all 12 titles equally and built the outreach around giving each game a fair opportunity to secure media interest. To manage scheduling, we consolidated developer availability into a collaborative file and coordinated with external industry partners to avoid duplicate bookings.

Our team handled appointment booking end-to-end, including organizing the game assets into a single press kit, creating a tailored appointments tracker, pitching the full lineup, scheduling appointments, and preparing a briefing book for the event. At gamescom, an UberStrategist team member was on-site at the booth to introduce journalists to developers, advise teams on press conversations, and monitor meetings throughout the event. After gamescom, we followed up on all appointments, including the editors who attended and those who missed the meetings.

Results

We met the client's primary objective by placing all 12 titles in front of press, with every game receiving at least one scheduled appointment. The campaign also generated coverage from the Japanese Tier 1 outlet 4Gamer for multiple titles, with additional articles from Tier 2 and Tier 3 press.

Beyond the bookings themselves, our on-site support helped keep the delegation organized and ensured scheduled meetings ran smoothly throughout the event. Together, the advance coordination and hands-on support gave NZ CODE a structured media presence at gamescom across a large group of participating studios.

“It goes beyond mere exhilarating battle action; it feels deeply rooted in respect for the rich culture of the South Pacific and a deep narrative.” (Regarding the game Denari)
