Challenges & Goals

Owlcat Games partnered with UberStrategist to support PR for Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, an upcoming cRPG for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Over the course of a 15-month campaign, we supported the game's reveal and continued to build momentum through every major pre-launch milestone.

The goals were to increase visibility across North American and European media, establish Owlcat Games as a leading cRPG developer, and maintain consistent coverage between major announcements. We also needed to introduce the game to media outside the core Warhammer community and clearly differentiate Dark Heresy from Owlcat's other Warhammer title, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader.

Strategic Approach

We developed a long-term PR strategy designed to sustain interest and build anticipation throughout the campaign. Our team refined the game's messaging, identified priority media and community voices, and built an outreach plan that combined news coverage with interviews, feature stories, and hands-on opportunities.

We supported every major campaign beat with targeted outreach, including the game's reveal, trailers, character reveals, and additional announcements. We also coordinated closed Alpha and Beta access for Tier 1 media, maintained ongoing feature and interview pitching during quieter periods, and adapted our messaging to reach both established Warhammer fans and journalists less familiar with the franchise.

Results

Since the game's reveal, we have secured consistent coverage across every major pre-launch beat, beginning with nearly 130 pieces of coverage for the initial announcement. Highlights include Tier 1 coverage from IGN, PC Gamer, and GamesRadar+, along with 10 developer interviews (including Windows Central, TheGamer, and PCGamesN) and 11 feature stories (including VGTimes, Screen Rant, and PC Gamer print edition).

Our continued outreach has helped Owlcat Games maintain a steady media presence between announcements while building anticipation for launch. Although Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy has not yet released, the strong response from Tier 1 media and the gaming community has established a solid foundation for a successful launch.
