Challenges & Goals

Polyarc Games was preparing to launch its acclaimed Moss series beyond VR platforms with Moss: The Forgotten Relic, a combined flat-screen release of Moss and Moss: Book II. Over a four-month campaign, our challenge was to introduce the title to PC and console audiences without allowing it to be dismissed as a simple port or reduced version of the original VR experience.

That distinction was especially important because flat-screen versions of VR games can carry assumptions about older content, reduced functionality, or the broader state of the VR market. Polyarc wanted The Forgotten Relic to stand on its own as a worthwhile experience for longtime Moss fans and newcomers alike.

Strategic Approach

Positioning became the foundation of our approach. After studying how previous flat-screen adaptations of VR titles had been framed, we deliberately centered the campaign on “re-imagining” rather than terms such as “port” or “re-release.” This allowed us to acknowledge the acclaim of the original games and shift attention toward what made The Forgotten Relic distinct.

We worked closely with Polyarc through multiple rounds of messaging, copywriting, and editing before the first announcement, then refined the language further after seeing how the media interpreted the initial news. To establish that framing early, we partnered with IGN for an exclusive announcement before distributing the news globally 24 hours later. We later used IGN Live to reveal the release date and demo. We also pre-seeded the Steam demo to select media, so previews could coincide with the announcement.

Results

Our outreach secured global coverage from major outlets, including over 110 pieces of Tier 1 coverage from outlets like IGN, GameSpot, Mirror, Vandal, GamesRadar, Polygon, 3DJuegos, Kotaku, Eurogamer, Hobby Consolas, TheGamer, Nintendo Life, Engadget, and Rock Paper Shotgun. We also coordinated interviews for the Polyarc team with outlets such as PCGamesN and GamingBolt.

Media sentiment was overwhelmingly positive, with only a small number of stories focused on the loss of VR functionality. Moss: The Forgotten Relic ultimately achieved a top Metacritic score of 85, which reinforced the campaign’s central message that the game could succeed on its own terms beyond VR.

"UberStrategists came in ready to embrace the unique opportunity of reintroducing Moss to a wider gaming audience while thoughtfully respecting its VR roots. They helped us break beyond that legacy with meaningful coverage across the broader gaming landscape with a short, targeted campaign."
