Challenges & Goals
NEED GAMES!, a renowned Italian publisher and developer of tabletop role-playing games, partnered with UberStrategist to promote a Kickstarter campaign for Fabula Ultima, a TTRPG inspired by Japanese console RPGs. The Kickstarter aimed to fund both the Celebration Edition of Fabula Ultima and the Bestiary Vol. 1.
The client sought a PR partner capable of generating consistent media attention from the announcement through the campaign's close. Having been impressed by UberStrategist’s prior work with Free League Publishing, NEED GAMES! engaged the team to raise awareness, attract new audiences, and support the Kickstarter during a six-week campaign.
Strategic Approach
Our strategy for the Fabula Ultima campaign centered on amplifying NEED GAMES!’s distinctive creative voice while ensuring consistent visibility throughout the Kickstarter period and creating opportunities for newcomers to get excited about the publisher’s offerings.
We positioned Fabula Ultima as a highly anticipated release that blends tabletop gameplay with JRPG-inspired design. Our team created tailored press and influencer lists, crafted personalized pitches, and coordinated review opportunities to maintain the campaign's visibility throughout its duration. We closely monitored media activity and Kickstarter progress, and maintained ongoing communication with the client to adapt outreach and ensure consistent momentum from start to finish.
Results
The campaign secured coverage from major outlets, including Comic Book, Wargamer, The Escapist, Spazio Games, Bell of Lost Souls, and Gaming Trend. We also coordinated an interview with Inverse, focusing on the Kickstarter’s success and the team’s collaboration with legendary illustrator Yoshitaka Amano. In total, we generated 33 pieces of coverage, including 13 from Tier 1 publications.
The Kickstarter goal of $24,000 was met within two minutes, ultimately raising over $1.6 million. The campaign’s success reflected both the strength of NEED GAMES!’s creative vision and the momentum built through consistent, collaborative PR support.
