Coverage for Debut Title from New Indie Horror Publisher

Challenges & Goals
Black Lantern Collective, a new indie horror game publisher, approached UberStrategist to support the launch of Caput Mortum. The game combines old-school dungeon-crawling with a horror atmosphere and is designed to appeal to fans of both classic RPGs and modern indie horror.
The client’s goal was to generate broad awareness through Tier 1 coverage, trailer placements, reviews, and attention around launch that would drive wishlists and sales. Since both the publisher and its debut title were unknown, our campaign had to build recognition from the ground up.
Strategic Approach
We leveraged the studio announcement ahead of launch to spark early media interest in Black Lantern Collective and its debut project. Positioning Caput Mortum as the publisher’s first official title helped underscore its significance within the horror gaming space.
Our team then focused on a strong review cycle, distributing keys as soon as they were available to maximize coverage. Outreach drew on our team’s expertise and relationships in horror media to secure an exclusive launch date and trailer reveal with GameSpot and additional impactful coverage on Tier 1 and Tier 2 outlets.
Results
The campaign secured 104 pickups, including 32 Tier 1 pieces of coverage. Highlights included placements in PC Gamer, GameSpot, IGN, and Bleeding Cool. This ensured strong visibility for Caput Mortum at launch despite the challenges of being a debut title from a new publisher.
The client reported satisfaction with the launch and noted a clear spike in wishlists coinciding with our outreach. By securing strong coverage for a new publisher and an unknown title, the campaign achieved its goals and laid a foundation of credibility for Black Lantern Collective’s future projects.
