Challenges & Goals

Indie developer Angela Game partnered with UberStrategist to support the launch of the Xizhou Civilization Pack, a major DLC expansion for Myth of Empires that introduced new Persian-inspired content and expanded the game’s multiplayer sandbox experience.

The six-week campaign faced several challenges, including a tight timeline, the DLC launching during GDC week, and lingering reputation concerns from the game’s earlier removal from Steam. Despite these factors, the focus remained on securing strong placements and re-engaging press with the game's update.

Strategic Approach

We began by identifying press targets with a track record of covering survival, sandbox, and strategy games. Outreach focused on the DLC’s new content and the game’s continued evolution, with early pitching timed to build awareness ahead of the release.

To support review opportunities, we arranged early access via a test server and provided DLC keys to media contacts. We followed with launch outreach, including a press release and newswire distribution, to drive continued coverage during release week.

Results

The campaign secured 43 pieces of coverage, including 20 from top-tier publications. Articles ran across a wide range of verticals, including core gaming press, entertainment, and mainstream. Notable placements included MSN, IGN, IGN India, and Adrenaline, which helped to bring the DLC to the attention of a global audience.

Despite timing and reputational challenges, the campaign succeeded in reigniting media interest in Myth of Empires and bringing attention to its latest expansion. The results reinforced the game's staying power and helped position the Xizhou Civilization Pack as a meaningful next chapter in its ongoing development.
