Turns Media Curiosity into a Full gamescom Appointment Schedule

Challenges & Goals
Zestum, a German startup focused on bringing scent into gaming, came to UberStrategist for gamescom support around The Scentbar, a modular scent device designed for use with games. The team wanted to put the product directly in front of global media through hands-on demo appointments.
The main challenge was positioning The Scentbar in a way that felt meaningfully different from earlier scent-based gaming products. Because journalists needed a compelling reason to make room in their gamescom schedules, our goal was to communicate that distinction clearly and secure as many hands-on press appointments as possible.
Strategic Approach
In our outreach, we positioned The Scentbar as a new way to experience games and explained clearly how the device and its modular scent pods worked. We focused on giving journalists a simple, compelling reason to try the product for themselves at gamescom.
We worked closely with Zestum to build a media schedule around meetings the team had already arranged. From there, we handled press pitching, appointment booking, schedule changes, cancellations, and post-event follow-ups.
Results
Our positioning of The Scentbar resonated with media and helped us secure a full schedule of 36 press appointments for Zestum at gamescom. The campaign generated coverage from outlets including PCGamesN, Sector, Inven Global, and T3.
The Zestum team was pleased with the gamescom support and the opportunities we created around The Scentbar. Journalists were able to experience the product firsthand, and the resulting coverage helped introduce Zestum’s technology to a broader gaming audience.
“It’s fun, it adds another layer of immersion to your experience, and it feels like a great product for a cozy gaming night in.”
