Challenges & Goals

High School Esports League (HSEL), the largest competitive gaming organization for high school students in North America, partnered with UberStrategist to strengthen its brand presence as varsity esports continue to grow. As new organizations entered the space, HSEL wanted to reinforce its leadership position and expand awareness beyond the gaming community.

A key priority was to increase mainstream media recognition while highlighting the organization's broader mission. HSEL sought to showcase how its programs support students through scholarships, career development, and educational opportunities but needed to overcome traditional media’s limited familiarity with esports.

Strategic Approach

Rather than focusing solely on competition, we positioned HSEL as an organization that creates meaningful opportunities for students through esports. We built outreach around the league's educational initiatives, student success stories, and partnerships with major brands, including Microsoft and Zaxby's.

Our team secured exclusive stories, coordinated interviews, and conducted targeted outreach across gaming, sports, business, and mainstream media. This approach allowed us to reach audiences with little prior exposure to varsity esports while reinforcing HSEL's leadership within the space.

Results

HSEL earned widespread coverage across gaming, sports, business, and mainstream media, including exclusives and interviews with The Associated Press, FOX Sports, The Hollywood Reporter, and VentureBeat. Additional coverage appeared in ESPN, Forbes, The Washington Post, Yahoo! Sports, and SFGate.

The campaign elevated HSEL's profile well beyond the esports community and strengthened its reputation as the leading organization for high school competitive gaming. The coverage also helped shift the conversation from esports as competition alone to esports as a pathway for education, scholarships, and future careers.
